Glossary@

Glossary

Gravitational Field: The region around a mass where it exerts a gravitational force on another mass.

Translation
Массаның айналасындағы аймақ, онда ол басқа массаға гравитациялық күш түсіреді.

Force: An interaction that changes the motion of an object.

Translation
Объектінің қозғалысын өзгертетін әрекет.

Potential Energy: Energy stored due to an object’s position in a field.

Translation
Объектінің өрістегі орнына байланысты сақталатын энергия.
Theory@

Theory

A gravitational field is a region of space around a mass in which another mass experiences a force. The strength of the field depends on the mass of the object and the distance from it. For example, Earth’s gravitational field can be calculated using the formula:

F = G * (m1 * m2) / r²

Here, F is the gravitational force, G is the universal gravitational constant, m1 and m2 are the masses involved, and r is the distance between their centers.

Key concepts: -force-, -distance-, and -field-.

Exercises@

Exercises

  1. Match the terms to their definitions.
  2. Calculate the gravitational force between two masses of 10kg and 15kg separated by 2m.
  3. Solution
    Using F = G * (m1 * m2) / r²:
    F = 6.67 × 10⁻¹¹ * (10 * 15) / 2²
    = 2.5 × 10⁻⁹ N.

Examples

Calculate the potential energy of an object of mass 5kg at a height of 10m above the ground:

Calculation example

Solution
Using PE = m * g * h:
PE = 5 * 9.8 * 10 = 490 J.
